"The Berry Big Battle", by Paul M.

Once upon a time in Berry Berryland, all the Berry people were preparing for the annual Berry Berryland Founders Day celebration. Mary Huckleberry was in charge of the strawberry table and Fran Mullberry was in charge of the blueberry table. Mary and Fran were two of Berry Berryland’s berry best cooks. Mary of course made her berry best strawberry short cakes and Fran made her berry best blueberry short cakes. They both worked very hard in preparing their special cakes. Both were proud of their accomplishments until they saw what great berry cakes the other had prepared.
“Of course you don’t think you are going to win Berry Berryland’s first place ribbon with those blueberry cakes of yours, do you?” said Mary Huckleberry. “Well of course I am.” said Fran Mullberry. “Everyone in Berry Berryland knows that blueberries are the berry berry best.” “I think not; everyone in Berry Berryland knows that my strawberry short cakes are the best.” yelled Mary. Fran was becoming extremely angry at Mary for her sarcastic attitude and said that Mary probably didn’t really make her strawberry short cakes anyway, because she heard that Betty Crockerberry had just introduced her new strawberry deluxe shortcake on the Martha Stewartberry show.
As the celebration started, Mary became more angry about what Fran had said. Mary knew that strawberries have always been better than blueberries. Mary then thought of something very cruel that would no doubt allow her to win Berry Berryland’s Founder’s Day Celebration Cake Contest. When Fran was not looking, Mary went to Fran’s table and put berry bad bugs on Fran’s beautiful blueberry cakes.
Mary’s strawberry shortcakes were first to be judged. Judge Raspberry was very impressed with Mary’s strawberry shortcakes. Then it was Fran’s turn. When Judge Raspberry took a bite of Fran’s beautiful blueberry cake he suddenly felt something crawling over his face. “Oh my goodness these are not beautiful blueberries, these are berry bad bugs.” “How could you do this to the people of Berry Berryland.” he screamed at Fran. Poor Fran was so shocked she just didn’t know what to do. She knew it had to be Mary Huckleberry that had done this to her.
Fran Mullberry stormed over to Mary Huckleberry and said “This is not over. I will get you for this.” Then she took Mary’s delicious strawberry short cake and dumped it on her head. Judge Raspberry told the ladies to stop their fighting right now. He had an idea on how to find if blueberries or strawberries are better. Judge Raspberry had a vote and the people of Berry Berryland voted that blueberries were best.
“I have won the judging and you have won the vote.” said Mary. “You can gather your blueberry people and I will gather my strawberry people we shall eat delicious strawberry cakes and you shall eat nothing till you die.” Fran replied “I don’t think so; we shall eat blueberry cakes and you shall eat nothing till you die.” “We shall battle berry against berry. Blueberries against strawberries until there is only kind of berry in Berry Berryland.” Mary stated.
The berry big battle began between the berry people of Berry Berryland. They threw all kinds of berry pies, cakes and cookies at each other until Madame Raspberry came back from her vacation from Chocolate Falls and Vanilla Swirls and saw what the people of Berry Berryland were doing. She yelled “STOP!” “What do you think you’re doing?” “Just look what you’ve done to Berry Berryland.” “All of our beautiful and delicious berries are destroyed. Did you forget that we are called Berry Berryland because ALL of the berries in Berry Berryland are the berry best?”
All the people of Berry Berryland came together and cleaned up the mess they had made. Mary Huckleberry and Fran Mullberry made up and became berry best friends and created a new kind berry. Then they made a new desert for the next annual Berry Berryland Founder’s Day celebration. They called it Strueberry pancakes. They lived berry berry happily every after.
