"As I Look Around", by Laura L.

What’s wrong? Who are we?
I think.
We are monsters!
We are monsters that ruin a gift!
Gift.
On Christmas, we tear the
paper that covers the gift.
We tear the life away from one tree.
Tree.
We tear the life away form the tree
that we’d sit under last summer.
The tree that carried so many memories.
Memories.
We all have memories of these,
but why don’t we care?
Care.
Why don’t we care about
God’s beautiful creations.
The grass we walk all over,
the trees we sit under,
the animals we love.
The lives we can save.
As I look around,
I smile.
