"Philosophy", a Creative Essay by Doug L. Copyright © 1999, Age 16
Philosophy is like a deep joke: Problem solving is not the only reason to think about something. To learn to look at a problem from many points of view can be even more important or meaningful than solving a present problem; because it a valuable skill. A very misunderstood view on one’s personal philosophy is that it is set in stone or that it has any set rules at all. Forming a personal philosophy is a process that can and perhaps should take an entire lifetime; it should, ideally, always be changing to match one’s perception of life, not dictating those views, but, instead, helping to shape the outlook, or the way one looks at life. A constant objective should be simply not to have a strict “I’m right your wrong” policy, but just to be open and see every point of view or way to look at the subject as, if not valid in your eyes, valid for others and in conjunction with that not persecuted by you. The pursuit of knowledge is best achieved with an open mind, and maybe the pursuit in its self is more meaningful than the actual end result… (Philosophy is like a deep joke) On most levels it is meaningful, but when it is really understood, it is incredible. |
