"The Memory of a Sand Grain", by The Lonely Shell Copyright © 1999, Age 33
Once upon a time, by the edge of the sea, there was a rock older than the time, where
only the Unicorn used to come to watch the sea in the sunset, soothing his sadness with its song. He was always coming lonely and leaving even lonelier and sadder, at the time when the night fell and only his misty horn was hipnotically lighting in the dark.
But one day in the twilight, the sea gathered all its waves at the rock’s feet. The Unicorn was watching without understanding, as he had never seen so much foam together, when out of the sparkling foam She was born. And when she climbed the rock with steps of slumber and shadows, the Unicorn found out what happiness was, watching into the sea-like eyes of his beloved with body made of foam and soul made of light.
Since then, the old rock has been crushed by the time of the earth, spread away near all seas of the world and it was called sand. The old sand knows only the steps walking on it...and it forgets them as soon as the sea wipes away their barefeet traces. But in every sand grain the memory sleeps, of the golden summer when, touching the silver of their moon horns, the Unicorns had made love.
