"Seventeen Today", by Bobbie
Copyright © April, 2001
Not that today is any different
I think of you often, but today
It's been seventeen years
It's not raining, it's not gloomy,
on the outside
Not like that day you left us,
But I still feel the chill.
Me?
I often think how proud you would be of my daughters.
How lucky I am to know the joy of being a parent.
But, I believe you do know.
Mom?
I look after her, so do the boys
She misses you, she gets lonely but...
It's different, certainly not what any of us expected
You probably didn't either.
It's been seventeen years and a lot of changes.
But, you are only gone in body
Never gone in spirit.
Remembrance of your passing
Seventeen years ago today...
I wanted you to know,
Dad,
I love you. That will never change.
