"For Travis", by Denise Martin Copyright © 2001
I will never forget
the day you were born
as I was born
on that day too.
I was wishing
you'd be born on my birthday and look,
my wish came true!
When I got back
from the mountains that day
I called your dad to see,
and when he answered the phone
and said, "Hi there Aunt ne ne
I cried many tears
all for joy
and then found out
you were a bouncing baby boy!
I came up to see you
and woke you up,
and you mom
was not happy with me.
I apologized to her
and said, "Sue I'm sorry
but I just had to
can't you see!"
As you were the best
birthday gift anyone
had ever given me
so naturally I had
to pick you up
just so I could see
It mattered not
what gender you were
as it made no difference to me
what matterd the most
was that you were born
very strong and healthy
I stared in awe
at the little bundle I saw
and was just so overcome
and then you put your
hand in your mouth
and began to suck your thumb
I used to watch you
quite a bit,
and whenever we went
you were always a big hit.
I'd explain to people
just who you were,
as most thought you were mine,
and when I told them the
story of us
oh how their faces would shine
Now you've grown to be
a strapping young man
and I'm very proud of you
however, I do miss the days
that you and I would play
games like "peek-a-boo"
Your laugh was contagious
our fun times outrageous
and you mean so much to me
so Travis, I just want
you to know
that I love you so
and you will always be my
Little L.B.!!!
