"For Jennifer", by Denise Martin Copyright © 2000, Age 41
I read your poem
and it made me cry
and there are many reasons
as to why.
When you board that bus
yes, I will be sad
but I'll think of all the
fun times
that you and I have had.
I'll think of the fun times
that are yet to come
because you're tweedle dee
and I'm tweedle dum!
We have grown so close
this is true,
as no one has as much fun
as me and you.
We've laughed
we've cried
we've griped and moaned
but you're happy now
cause you're going home.
It's nice to see you smile again
as I've been worried about
you for awhile
but since you got that email
what else can you do but smile
oh sure, you could cry
but why?
Don't ever be sorry
because you're going home
just once in a while
pick up the phone
call me when you're happy,
call me when you're sad
call me about the good times
call me about the bad.
You need to know
I'll miss you so
but I understand
that you have to go
You've had some time
to reflect on things
you've put on a smile
and it's easing the sting
You will face you demons
and your fears
and possibly even
shed a few tears
Be strong my little
my little camel jockey
as I know you can
you have the power to overcome
when things start to hit the fan
Take you life
by the reins
and you will see
what you will gain
Learn from mistakes
and to others
you'll teach
and no one had better mess with
my sweet georgia peach!!
