"Wait Til' Next Week", by Kaylee Zimmerman Copyright © 2000
Go team, go
Your pride you can show
The crowd is on your side
There's no need to hide
Step up to that plate
Honey, and wait
Wait for the right ball
It'll come, swing!
Thats ok, honey, still two more tries
You can do it, no need to cry
Mommy is here, just swing that bat
There ya' go, WACK
Ball goes to the pitcher and is thrown to first
The boy tried his worst
But no luck, he out
His mother was ready for screaming and pout
But he walked up to her happy!
Well, how could this be?
She asked if he was ok, and said he did great
'I know, Mommy, but wait till next week, Mommy, wait.'
Is all that he said, and the mother wondered what was going through his head
Next weeks game and he steps to the plate
He calls out, 'Mommy, now you don't have to wait'
The pitcher throws and the little boy swings
Thats strike one, two more to go
The pitcher winds up and throws
He swings and thats strike two
Everyone on his team wanted to boo
but they cheered him on and then came strike three
He walked to his mother, head towards the ground
And the mother looked at him, not makin a sound
The little boy looked up and you could tell his courage had sprung a leak
But the little boy smiled and said, 'Wait till next week!'
