"Liberty's Tears", by A.K.Metheny Copyright © 2001
Oh the tears She must have shed;
as from terror people fled;
from smoke and ash that filled the air;
as the Towers fell...BOTH...the pair!
The Harbor must be deeper now;
from the tears She must have cried;
from up there on that great pedestal of pride;
People dead, people missing;
rescue workers keep on digging;
above all, hoping to find, a glimpse,
a glimmer, maybe a miracle;
trying hard to cling to faith;
Oh but Oh, that terrible wait!
The Towers, they vow, will be rebuilt;
though the terrorists feel no guilt;
We will not be beaten, nor downtrodden,
for this is AMERICA...The USA...
this is the home of the Free and the Brave!
Our Nation's leaders will do what's right;
while God shines down His everlasting light;
and when all is said and all is done;
the world will remember September 11 2001!
We were hit in our hearts;
as we watched when the Towers came apart;
our nerve centers took a blow;
when into the Pentagon they flew!
And in Pennsylvania, heros tried to regain control;
to keep terror from adding to it's toll;
and though that plane did hit the ground;
those folks aren't lost, for I believe, they are found!
And if they could, I know they would;
send goodbyes and send kisses and send hugs;
down to Earth to those they love!
Lady Liberty still stands there;
she reminds us of the Freedom we share;
So, chin up AMERICA, keep your faith;
as we all still sit and wait;
and cheers to those millions who've helped;
as this Nation, in sorrow wept;
and for those heroes we must remember the year 2001
the day 11 and the month; it was SEPTEMBER!
