"Footprints On The Heart", by Sana Kakkar Copyright © September 11, 2001, Age 27
She sat watching the sun set
Glowing along with the rays
Watching intently uncertain of what to expect
Of life ahead and all those numerous days
Flashes of childhood rush across
She wonders if that’s what she misses?
The days of loneliness that made her feel loss,
Or that desire for some hugs and kisses?
Screams of anger and yelling of pain,
Which fill the house even today
How to her friends she could explain,
When she herself wanted to run far away.
She made families outside
Of strangers and in dreams
No where to go, so she had to abide
To an imaginary world it seems.
She painted a picture of her home and beloved
That someday she knew will be.
"It would have nothing but lots of love"
This is a dream she would often see.
She looked at her palms and sketched lines over lines,
Somehow the fate would change.
"Someday I would meet one who would be mine
It would be as if life just became."
Hope that kept her smiling and alive
That gave the shine in her eyes,
That home of dreams could not survive
When stuck by reality in disguise.
She did build a home but it couldn’t stand
And she met the love but too late.
Why the timing was wrong she couldn’t understand,
So she just gave up to fate.
Homeless now she just survives
Lost in the crowd around.
It was nothing but a bunch of lies
And memories of love hounds.
Everyday she watches the sunset and rise
Watches the dream going further apart
With tears in eyes, which were once mesmerized
By the beauty, now leave painful footprints on the heart
