"Dear God", by Harry Malachowsky Copyright © 1988, Age 80 +
Dear God,
I know you can tell when it's time for me to go.
I would appreciate it if you gave some sort of warning, so I could finish up my work here.
There are so many things I am involved in: helping my wife, family, friends, and others, that if you called me up without warning, it will cause a lot of confusion and hardship for them.
I figure 60 days will give me and them enough time to show them how to cope. My wife will have to learn how to manage her medications, do the banking and pay the bills, clean the house, especially the bird cage. The most difficult thing will be to remember to shut the burner after cooking. I almost forgot...fighting iwth Medicare for the proper reimbursement.
My daughters and son will manage somehow to get along. My neighbors, who occasionally need my help answering questions, will have to find another community activist.
You see God, like yourself, I have been busy helping out, so if you change your mind I would appreciate it if you let me know.
Your servant,
Harry
P.S. My wife, who has been driving a car for over 35 years, doesn't know how gas is put into the car and refuses to drive to the shopping mall with the tank 1/2 full, evn though we live 2 miles from there.
My granddaughter needs a lift to and from the bus for the next 2 years.
Think it over. It will be difficult to find someone to do all these tasks. Once again, thanks for listening.
Your devoted disciple,
Harry
